A former manufacturing facility was transformed into a contemporary corporate headquarters through the use of an innovative soil cleanup program. Decades of chlorinated solvent use by a prior occupant resulted in extensive soil contamination beneath the building. Contaminated soil was excavated and covered by containment “tent” under negative pressure. Soil was agitated using front-end loaders and a carbon filter captured airborne contaminants. Over 1,000 tons of soil was treated in four weeks at one-fifth the cost of landfill disposal.
